African Violet Mix - A premium bark & coco-peat blend (15dm) by Culterra.
The perfect soil mix for beautiful, blooming African Violets!
What is an African Violet?
African Violets (Saintpaulia) are popular houseplants loved for their delicate, colourful flowers and soft, velvety leaves. Originally from the tropical regions of East Africa, they thrive indoors and make stunning gifts or windowsill displays year-round.
This specially formulated African Violet Mix is designed to give your plants the ideal growing conditions they need: excellent drainage, aeration, and moisture retention without waterlogging the roots.
Premium composition:
- Blend of composted bark and imported coco-peat.
- Odourless, weed-free, and untreated.
- Eco-friendly and recycled materials.
- Light and fluffy texture that promotes healthy root growth.
South African care tips for African Violets:
- Light: Bright, indirect light (east or north-facing windows work best). Avoid direct midday sun which can scorch leaves.
- Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water from the bottom (in a saucer) to avoid wetting the leaves, which can cause spotting.
- Temperature: They love 18–24°C – protect from cold winter draughts and summer heat above 30°C.
- Humidity: Moderate humidity helps; place near a pebble tray with water if your indoor air is dry (common in Gauteng and drier regions).
- Feeding: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks during spring and summer.
Best used on its own in small pots for African Violets, but also excellent for other delicate houseplants that prefer well-aerated, slightly acidic media.
Give your African Violets the best start – healthy roots and abundant blooms start with the right soil mix!
